An economic control team under the Ariana regional directorate of Trade and Export Development seized, this Wednesday, 14,994 bottles of mineral water in various formats from a food products wholesaler in Kalâat El Andalous.

This operation was carried out in coordination with the services of the Ariana regional directorate of the National Authority for the Sanitary Safety of Food Products and the services of the national security at Kalâat El Andalous. It is part of the intensification of controls aimed at fighting various infringements affecting certain consumer products, during this period coinciding with preparations for the summer season.

The regional director of Trade and Export Development, Sami Bejaoui, told the Tunis Africa Presse Agency that this seizure follows illegal commercial practices attributed to the wholesaler involved, who would have used diverted means. It includes notably the storage of the seized water bottles at an address not corresponding to the purchase documents, as well as the possession of quantities of pasta, carbonated drinks, mineral water and expired juice, stored illegally.

The Ariana regional directorate’s services of the National Authority for the Sanitary Safety of Food Products proceeded with the physical seizure of these food products, totaling 1,958 bottles of mineral water, juice and carbonated drinks, as well as 504 kg of pasta, awaiting the completion of destruction procedures.

On their side, the services of the regional directorate of Trade established an investigative record for commercial practices based on diverted means, while continuing the legal procedures relating to the confiscation of the seized products for the benefit of the Public Treasury.
