Ministry of Higher Education Sets the 2026-2027 Academic Year Calendar

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has set the calendar for the 2026-2027 academic year, within the framework of organizing the normal progression of studies in higher education and research institutions, according to a circular addressed to the presidents of universities, as well as to the directors and deans of higher education and research institutions.

According to this circular, the upcoming academic year will begin on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 for the preparatory institutes for engineering studies, the schools and institutes of engineering education, the National School of Architecture and Urban Planning of Tunis, the faculties of medicine, dentistry and pharmacy, the National Veterinary Medicine School of Sidi Thabet, as well as the higher institutes of technological studies.

For the other higher education institutions, the university start date is set on Saturday, September 12, 2026.

The academic year will extend over at least 28 weeks of classes, excluding vacation and examination periods, with the exception of study programs subject to specific legal provisions. University teachers will, for their part, continue to ensure the assessment of end-of-year results, as well as the supervision of examinations, competitions and correction operations.

Regarding university holidays, the ministry has set the winter holidays from Saturday, December 12, 2026, after the end of classes, to Sunday, December 27, 2026. The spring holidays will extend from Friday, March 19, 2027, after the end of classes, to Sunday, April 4, 2027.

The academic year will also be punctuated by several official holidays, notably Evacuation Day and Revolution Day, respectively on October 15 and December 17, 2026, New Year’s Day on January 1, 2027, Independence Day on March 20, 2027, Martyrs’ Day on April 9, 2027, as well as Labour Day on May 1, 2027. The dates of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha holidays will be set later.
