Tunisia: Over 900,000 Metric Tons of Cereals Collected

Written by: Adel Khelifi on July 11, 2026

The quantities of cereals collected nationwide reached approximately 9.1 million quintals as of July 7, 2026, while operations continued in the various production zones under conditions described as favorable, according to data published by the Cereals Office.

The collected volumes are distributed between 8.6 million quintals of cereals intended for consumption, i.e., 95 % of the total received at the collection centers, and 493 000 quintals of raw selected seeds, representing 5 %, collected from seed-producing companies.

The pace of collection has accelerated somewhat in recent days, aided by the stabilization of climatic conditions in the different production regions, which allowed intensifying operations.

The Beja Governorate leads with 2 million quintals collected, followed by Kef with 1.3 million quintals, by Bizerte with 1.23 million and by Siliana with 1.21 million quintals.

The collected quantities also reached 966 000 quintals in Jendouba, 643 000 in Kairouan, 605 000 in Zaghouan, 560 000 in La Manouba, 220 000 in Nabeul, 123 000 in Ariana, 115 000 in Kasserine, 107 000 in Gafsa and 98 000 in Sidi Bouzid. The governorate of Sousse recorded 3 000 quintals, versus 59 quintals in Mahdia.

In the same context, the Cereals Office indicated that regional technical commissions are selecting quantities of barley from the 2026 harvest to be incorporated into the controlled barley reserve stock intended for sowing.

The control teams under the Office also continue their regular visits to collection centers and calibration laboratories, in order to monitor working conditions and the pace of cereal evacuation, as well as the progress of payments due to farmers.

The volumes of cereals evacuated as of July 7, 2026, whether routed to the Cereals Office units or sold to mills, reached about 3.4 million quintals. According to the Office, this figure reflects the effectiveness of the evacuation program implemented since the start of the campaign, as well as the contribution of additional storage capacities rented and the transport by road and rail to the success of the operation.

The Cereals Office has renewed its appeal to farmers and all stakeholders to contact the monitoring cell dedicated to the 2026 cereals collection campaign to obtain answers to their questions, overcome difficulties encountered and report any delays in the payment of sums owed to farmers, at the following numbers: 21 75 99 95 and 88 67 10 80.
