FairSquare’s lawsuit against FIFA President Gianni Infantino will not succeed.
While it filed a complaint with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Ethics Commission against the FIFA president for his alleged “repeated violations of political neutrality,” the British human rights NGO saw its complaint rejected. The organization mainly criticized the FIFA chief for his openly displayed closeness to U.S. President Donald Trump.
For the IOC, this matter did not fall within its remit. “The IOC Ethics Commission noted that, in accordance with the Olympic Charter, each international federation preserves its independence and the autonomy of its governance,” explained a spokesperson for the body.
This decision comes as Gianni Infantino is more criticized than ever after numerous controversies that preceded and continued during this 2026 World Cup. The FIFA president had notably awarded a “FIFA Peace Prize” to Trump in December 2025.
