Korba-Tazarka: Tourism Ranking on the Horizon and 65 Million Dinars for Infrastructure (Statement)

Written by: Adel Khelifi on August 13, 2026

The deputy for the Korba-Tazarka constituency, in the Nabeul governorate, Noura Chebrak, stated, in an exclusive interview with Tunisie Numérique, that she had received assurances from the Ministers of the Interior and Tourism regarding the acceleration of steps to classify Korba as a tourist municipality.

The elected official also provided an update on several infrastructure projects in progress or planned in the region, notably two road projects with a total cost of 65 million dinars, as well as on files related to floods, drinking water and the strengthening of public services.

Korba and Tazarka still awaiting tourist classification

Noura Chebrak stressed that Korba has significant natural and tourist assets, recalling that its beach is among the most appreciated and that it had obtained the Blue Flag in 2009.

She noted, however, that neither Korba nor Tazarka are currently classified as tourist municipalities, despite the presence of several tourist facilities and activities.

According to the deputy, two dossiers have been prepared and letters have been sent to the Interior and Tourism ministries to obtain this classification.

“We are still awaiting a response to our request,” she said.

An essentially administrative blockage

Asked about the reasons for the delay in classifying Korba, Noura Chebrak explained that the file mainly runs into an administrative procedural issue.

According to her, integrating Korba into the list of tourist municipalities does not require particularly complex steps. Once the classification decree is published, the Support Fund for Tourist Zones could cover the necessary resources.

The deputy also believes that this issue concerns not only Korba but the entire coastline of the region.

She considers that the tourist classification could help attract new investments and strengthen tourism activity, estimating that the financial resources allocated to these municipalities could generate significant spillovers in economic and tourism terms.

Infrastructure at the heart of the region’s attractiveness

For Noura Chebrak, the quality of infrastructure constitutes one of the main levers to create a genuine investment climate and to improve the region’s attractiveness.

She indicated that she had contacted the Ministry of Equipment regarding several blocked or delayed projects, while noting progress in some files.

The deputy clarified that the projects fall into two categories: those directly under municipalities within their territorial scope and those concerning designated roads, which fall under the Ministry of Equipment.

Two road projects worth 65 million dinars

Regarding the projects under the Ministry of Equipment, Noura Chebrak indicated that work on the Tunis road project started on June 17, 2026.

She believes that this axis should have a significant impact on mobility and economic activity in the region.

Moreover, calls for tenders for the segment passing through Korba on the Nabeul to Menzel Temime road are expected to be launched in the coming weeks.

This project is linked to the construction of a 13-kilometer bypass, from the main avenue to Tazarka.

The aim is, in particular, to reduce traffic congestion in the area. Work is expected to begin by the end of 2026.

According to the deputy, the total cost of these two projects is 65 million dinars.

1.5 million dinars for the development of Korba’s corniche

On the municipal front, Noura Chebrak indicated that the municipality began, a few days ago, the first phase of the Korba corniche development project, for an amount of 1.5 million dinars.

She also mentioned several other infrastructure projects involving various roads and streets in the region.

The deputy also highlighted an improvement in cleanliness both in Korba and in Tazarka, stating that the efforts in this area deserve to be noted.

Requests to strengthen public services

Among the main difficulties faced by the region, Noura Chebrak cited the insufficiency of certain local representations of public establishments.

She notably mentioned the STEG office, which, in her view, lacks the full set of necessary technical means.

A request was made for the creation of a complete agency, and the deputy claims to have received assurances that this demand should be met soon.

A similar approach was taken with the Ministry of Agriculture for the opening of a full SONEDE branch.

Noura Chebrak also indicated that an agreement had been obtained for the opening of a CNAM office, while awaiting the resolution of certain difficulties.

A request was also made for the creation of a Civil Protection unit in the region.

A study to protect Korba and Tazarka from floods

The deputy also mentioned monitoring the flood protection project for Korba, in coordination with regional and central authorities.

A study is currently devoted to Korba and Tazarka, she noted, highlighting the importance of this project in the face of climate change effects and the increasing frequency of extreme weather events.

According to her, the Urban Water Directorate has already completed its study on this matter.

Rural roads and drinking water among the priorities

Finally, Noura Chebrak mentioned the approved investment plan for the region, resulting from a process that began locally and was carried to the regional and then national levels.

This program notably plans the resurfacing of several rural tracks to open up certain areas.

It also includes a component aimed at improving access to drinking water. Studies are to be launched soon to connect several localities to the water network and to improve roads, particularly in the Boujrida and Diar El Hajjaj areas.
