Saturday, Usain Bolt’s world record for the 100 meters fell, and it happened during a very special competition organized in Beijing; the straight was run in 9.39 seconds, shattering the Jamaican’s supersonic time by 0.19 seconds.
But, this benchmark remains the fastest time in history to date, as “Lightning Bolt” was beaten by a humanoid robot.
This goes back to the World Robotics Games that opened this Saturday in Beijing, spectators can watch competitions in athletics, football, table tennis or weightlifting.
The main threat is named Gout Gout
Starting with a delay against a red robot whose legs whirled at incredible speed, the black-and-white contender in lane No. 1 gradually closed the gap before making the difference in favor of a longer stride.
The video is circulating widely on social networks. Internet users are amused, notably by the misadventure of the red robot which failed to slow down after the finish line, colliding head-on with a mat before lying unconscious on the ground, carried away on a stretcher by several members of the medical team.
Among ordinary mortals, Usain Bolt nonetheless has reason to worry since a rising star has shown up in Australia. World junior champion in the 200m, Gout Gout broke the category record, boasting that he ran faster than the current world record holder in the 100m and the 200m at the same age.
Note that the Jamaican did not hesitate to dispense valuable advice to the 18-year-old athlete.
