Chouaieb Nemri, a Tunisian expert based in France, has just launched an interesting application, Handimap, which enables real-time localization of parking spaces for people with reduced mobility.
The platform was designed to offer maximum speed with a minimal footprint: spatial indexing by B-trees in SQLite, columnar analyses in Parquet format, Python serverless endpoints deployed on Vercel with latency under 15 ms, and an installable PWA interface.
“I am pleased today to present Handimap, a unified and high-performance platform that maps the parking spaces reserved for people with reduced mobility across the entire French territory,” announced Chouaieb Nemri.
And he added that in France, the data related to PMR parking had until now been fragmented across more than 100 municipal open data portals and different local GIS platforms, without a centralized source or a fast mobile tool allowing easy access.
Handimap offers 187,161 verified PMR locations, with precise WGS84 coordinates and an estimated 230,323 accessible parking spaces. It covers 100% of the French territory across 21 regions, including the Metropole, the DROMs and the overseas collectivities.
Handimap is a geospatial search engine with a response time of less than a millisecond, incorporating dynamic radius filtering. It provides GPS navigation in one click thanks to direct links to Google Maps and Waze.
