The Regional Security Council of the Tunis Governorate has adopted a series of security, logistical and economic measures to ensure the smooth progress of the start of the school year, professional training and university for the 2026-2027 year.
These provisions aim to anticipate potential difficulties related to this period and to guarantee the conditions necessary for the success of the return, notably in terms of security, transport, provisioning and social support.
A coordinated framework across multiple sectors
According to a communiqué from the Tunis Governorate, these measures were decided during a meeting of the Regional Security Council devoted to examining the issues likely to be encountered during the start of the school year.
The meeting brought together security and military officials, representatives of Civil Protection, as well as delegates, municipal officials and several regional directors from the education, commerce, transport, equipment, agriculture and social affairs sectors.
Monitoring of educational establishments and improvement of the environment
Among the measures decided is the inspection of the buildings and fences of educational establishments to identify and correct deficiencies that could pose a risk to students and educational staff.
The authorities have also planned to monitor the availability of the necessary equipment as well as educational and pedagogical human resources.
In parallel, general cleaning operations will be carried out to remove waste and eliminate bottlenecks on routes frequented by students and university students.
Strengthening security around schools and universities
The plan also provides for intensification of security patrols around schools and universities, particularly during the arrival and dismissal hours of students and scholars.
The authorities have also decided to continue the fight against anarchic occupation of public space near educational establishments.
Furthermore, campaigns to combat stray dogs will be launched to limit rabies risks and prevent attacks that could target students.
Market supply and combatting speculation
Economically, regional authorities emphasized the need to ensure market supply of essential school supplies, notably school books and adequate quantities of subsidized notebooks.
Economic control operations will also be reinforced to combat speculation, product withholding, unjustified price increases, and conditional sales.
A plan to secure school transport and support families
A preventive program has also been put in place to secure school transport and mobilize available resources to ensure the travel of students in the best possible conditions.
Regional authorities have also underlined the importance of supporting vulnerable categories and low-income families, through identifying beneficiaries of in-kind and financial aid, to enable them to approach the start of the school year in better conditions.
