100 families have been evacuated, on Monday evening, from Djebel el Guitoun, in Ksar Lamsa, in the Oueslatia delegation, in the governorate of Kairouan, following the extension of the fire that broke out in the evening on Mount Bargou, in the governorate of Siliana, according to Nabil Hamdi, deputy for the Sbikha, Oueslatia and Ain Jloula constituency.
In a statement to Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP), from the scene, Hamdi indicated that the fire continued to advance around 10 p.m., under the influence of strong winds, while the flames were approaching residential areas in the Cherfa locality.
Facing this situation, the Local Commission for Disaster Response and Aid Organization in Oueslatia, under the supervision of the regional delegate, decided to evacuate the families in order to preserve their safety.
He specified that the evacuated families had been hosted at the Ksar Lamsa secondary school, while awaiting the fire to be brought under control and an assessment of the situation allowing residents to return to their homes under safe conditions.
Nabil Hamdi added that the region is currently in a state of alert and mobilization to face the progression of the fire and to limit its spread. Local authorities, Civil Protection units and forest agents continue to monitor the ground in order to follow the evolution of the situation and to protect the residential areas as well as the inhabitants.
