According to an estimate published by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, in the second quarter of 2026, seasonally adjusted GDP increased by 0.6% in the euro area and by 0.7% in the European Union (EU) compared with the previous quarter. In the first quarter of 2026, GDP had remained flat in the euro area and had risen by 0.1% in the EU.
Compared with the same quarter of the previous year, seasonally adjusted GDP rose by 1.2% in the euro area and by 1.4% in the EU in the second quarter of 2026, after increases of 0.6% and 0.9% in the previous quarter respectively.
During the second quarter of 2026, U.S. GDP grew by 0.4% compared with the previous quarter, after an increase of 0.5% in the first quarter of 2026. On an annual basis, U.S. GDP rose by 2.1%, after a 2.7% gain in the previous quarter.
In the second quarter of 2026, Ireland (+10.2%) recorded the strongest GDP growth compared with the previous quarter, followed by Slovenia (+1.8%) and Lithuania (+1.7%). Austria (-0.1%) was the only member state to record a decline from the previous quarter.
