The National Water Exploitation and Distribution Company (SONEDE) announced, in a public press release, that a sudden fault was recorded on the main water supply pipeline, with a diameter of 600 mm. Consequently, disruptions and outages in the supply of drinking water will be recorded in several regions of the governorates of Sousse, Monastir, Mahdia and Kairouan, starting from noon on Monday, September 21, 2026.
The areas affected by the outages are as follows:
· Governorate of Kairouan :
· Delegation of Kairouan North: El Houamed and El Ghabat.
· Governorate of Sousse :
· Delegation of Sidi El Héni: Sidi El Héni, Ouled Alouane, GhniBgou, Ouled El Kchine and Ouled El Kalh.
· Delegation of Kalâa Seghira: Oued Laya, Ennagr, Dar Gham, Ennawa and El Jebil.
· Delegation of Msaken: The STIP plant, Fer’at El Menjour, El Knaies, Echihia, Ouled Ettoumi, Beni Rabia, El Biadha, Beni Kalthoum, El Frada and El Borjin.
· Governorate of Monastir :
· Delegation of Zermadine: Menzel Hayet, El Alacha, El Mazougha and El Melbichat.
· Delegation of Jemmal: Menzel Kamel, Bir Ettayeb and El Haddara.
· Delegation of Ouerdanine: Ouerdanine, Oued El Jebs, Bou Othmane and Menzel Khir.
· Delegation of Benbla: Menzel Nour.
· Governorate of Mahdia :
· Delegation of Boumerdès: The city of Kerker.
The SONEDE specified that the repair works on the fault will continue 24 hours a day. The progressive and normal restoration of the water supply is expected from Wednesday, September 23, 2026 at 8:00 a.m., as soon as the repair works are completed.
