Results from a study conducted for the National Telecommunications Authority (INT) show that 85.9 % of Tunisians are connected to the Internet, an increase of 10.9 percentage points compared to the 2023 study.
The main results of the study indicate that Internet usage reached 98.3% among university-educated individuals, 70.8% among Tunisians with primary education, and 23% among Tunisians without schooling.
The study also shows that the higher the income, the higher Internet usage: it is 69.1% for people whose income is at least 600 dinars, compared with 95.9% for those whose income is 2,500 dinars or more.
Regarding professional activity, the study shows that employed individuals have an Internet usage rate of 90.8%, compared with 81.3% for inactive.
Regarding gender, the Internet usage rate is 86.5% among men and 85.2% among women, which shows near parity between the two sexes on this matter.
The age group 18-24 shows a usage rate of 99.2%, compared with 54.1% for the 66-70 age group.
Geographical distribution shows that District 5 has the highest Internet usage rate in Tunisia, at 94.3%. Note that District 2 has the lowest Internet usage rate, at 79.6%.
Regarding Internet usage habits, the study results show that Internet users mainly use the Internet at home, with a rate of 95.1%. In cafés and restaurants, this rate reaches 33%, compared to 31.7% at the workplace.
The study reveals that the Internet usage peak occurs in the evening, with 67.9% of respondents. Note that 85.2% of Internet usage occurs in the afternoon. Thus, 17.3% of respondents connect to the Internet between 14:00 and 18:00, 50% between 18:00 and 22:00, and 17.9% at night, from 22:00.
Results of the same study show that 54.9% of users connect to the Internet for a duration of three hours per day, while 70.9% of Internet users connect more than three times per day.
Internet connections are dominated by mobile usage, with a rate of 70.4%, against 65.3% for fixed connections. Note that 60.9% of Internet users prefer mobile data offers, while 39.3% are subscribed to ADSL-VDSL offers.
Note that this study was conducted by a specialized firm on behalf of the National Telecommunications Authority (INT), with a representative sample of the Tunisian population aged 10 to 70 years. The survey included 5,077 respondents interviewed using face-to-face questionnaires, following the CAPI method, from May 15 to June 10, 2026.
