The president of the National Chamber of Transport for Dangerous Goods, Fethi Zouari, stated on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, that the majority of fuel transport truck drivers would not participate in the strike announced for September 23 and 24 by the union side.
Companies contest the legality of the strike
Zouari indicated that fuel transport companies had received no official strike notification in accordance with the provisions of Article 376 and the following articles of the Labor Code.
He argued that the financial difficulties faced by only two companies, leading to delays in paying their contributions to the National Social Security Fund, did not justify, in his view, a strike likely to affect market supply.
The official added that the situation of the two companies concerned with respect to the National Social Security Fund had been regularized for several weeks.
The May 2, 2019 minutes at the heart of the dispute
The president of the National Chamber of Transport for Dangerous Goods also contested the request to apply the minutes concluded on May 2, 2019.
According to him, this agreement has been abandoned and canceled for more than seven years due to non-compliance with its provisions by drivers and trade unions.
Fethi Zouari also called for securing the routes used for fuel transport to ensure adequate supplies at service stations during the two days of the announced strike.
The Agil station unions support the transporters
On their side, the grassroots unions of Agil stations under the management and services activity expressed, in a statement published on Tuesday, their full support and solidarity with fuel transport workers within the framework of the strike planned for September 23 and 24.
The unions called the various stakeholders to prioritize national interest and to resume serious and responsible dialogue to reach solutions that preserve the rights of workers in the sector and guarantee their stability, according to the statement.
A movement linked to several social demands
As a reminder, the General Federation of the private sector under the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) had issued a strike notice in the fuel transport sector for September 23 and 24.
The movement is motivated, according to the union notice, by the non-compliance by administrative parties with previously concluded agreements, notably those related to social coverage with the National Social Security Fund and the implementation of the May 2, 2019 agreement.
