The urology department of Habib Bougatfa University Hospital in Bizerte began, on Thursday, to practice flexible ureteroscopy combined with laser treatment for kidney stones. According to a statement from the establishment, this activity was launched thanks to new equipment provided by the Ministry of Health.
An enhanced technical platform
The equipment made available includes a 4K endoscopy system, a flexible ureteroscope, a high-power laser, and all the accessories and materials necessary for these procedures, according to the hospital.
This device enables the urology department to offer the treatment of kidney stones by flexible ureteroscopy with laser fragmentation.
A new step for large stones
The establishment also announces, for the next phase, the introduction of a device designated in its statement as a “500-micron laser” during percutaneous fragmentation procedures.
According to the hospital, these procedures constitute the reference treatment for large-size stones.
The “Mini-PCNL” technique announced soon
The department also plans to soon begin practicing the “Mini-PCNL,” or miniaturized percutaneous nephrolithotomy.
This new activity, according to the establishment, fits into the development of a modern and minimally invasive care approach for patients presenting with urinary stones.
