The progressive elimination of the fax in the Tunisian administration depends on the completion of the technical and organizational preparation of public institutions, on the availability of infrastructures, and on the generalization of a secure professional electronic mailbox. This was explained by the Electronic Administration Unit at the Presidency of the Government, according to TAP.
This response was given to a written question by Deputy Fayçal Seghir regarding the maintenance of the fax and the lack of generalization of electronic mail in administrative correspondence. It was published on Tuesday, September 29, 2026 on the official site of the Assembly of the Representatives of the People.
A ‘progressive’ transition
According to the Unit, the move to a fully digital administration requires a gradual approach, taking into account differences in the level of preparation between central, regional and local structures, to ensure an inclusive and sustainable transformation.
The Presidency of the Government is working, in coordination with public structures and the Ministry of Technologies of Communication, to generalize the electronic exchange of correspondences and administrative documents and to progressively reduce the use of traditional means. The stated objective: unify the processing circuits, accelerate the reception and handling of files, improve their tracking and guarantee the security and confidentiality of documents.
The Unit recalls that the digital transformation of the administration is included in the development plan 2026-2030, approved by Law No. 16 of 2026 of July 20, 2026.
