The European Central Bank (ECB) recently announced that the new euro banknotes are expected to be issued gradually starting from the early 2030s. The banknotes currently in circulation will remain valid and will continue to circulate alongside the new series.
And it added that once the Governing Council has made its decision, the chosen design will be further refined before the production of the notes begins. The new banknotes will incorporate enhanced security features and will also be more accessible and more durable.
The ECB also indicated that the results of the survey, in which a total of 9.96 million people participated in Europe and beyond, and expressed their views on the future design of euro banknotes, show how much Europeans care about their future euro banknotes.
Note that 2.6% of the euro area population took part in the survey, which took place from July 23 to September 21, 2026, and people of all age groups showed keen interest, including younger generations.
