SONEDE Announces 36-Hour Interruptions in Potable Water Distribution Across Several Zones
The National Water Distribution and Exploitation Company (SONEDE) announced that starting on Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at 1:00 a.m., there will be disruptions and outages in the supply of drinking water for a period of 36 hours in several areas.
Affected are the La Marsa delegation: Cité Bou Selsla, Borj El Haki, Cité Ettabek, Cité El Hokkème, Sidi Daoud, and El Bahri El Azraq; the Kram delegation: Le Kram Ouest, Jardins de Carthage, Ain Zaghouan Nord and Sud; the Carthage delegation: Cité Mohamed Ali, Carthage Byrsa; the El Khadra delegation: Les Berges du Lac 1; the La Goulette delegation: Les Berges du Lac 2, Cité Taïeb Mhiri, Cité El Wahat, Cité Essalama, and L’Aouina; as well as the La Soukra delegation: Dar Fadhal.
Water distribution will progressively resume starting at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.
According to a SONEDE press release, this interruption is part of the completion of the flood protection project for the La Marsa area and the covering of the Ettabek watershed at Ibn Rachiq street, in El Bahri El Azraq. This project is supervised by the Urban Waters Directorate under the Ministry of Equipment and Housing.
It was found that a main distribution line with a diameter of 1,000 millimeters lies along the route of the works, hindering their progress within the planned deadlines. The situation thus made it necessary to relocate the line as soon as possible.
SONEDE extended its sincere apologies to all subscribers residing in the areas affected by the disruptions and the outage of water supply for the inconveniences caused by this temporary interruption, which is required by the completion conditions of the La Marsa flood protection project.
It specified that works will continue without interruption, day and night, 24 hours a day for the entire duration of the intervention. Its technical teams will be fully mobilized on the ground and will do everything possible to complete the works promptly in order to restore water distribution at its normal pace.
Finally, SONEDE urged citizens and the establishments concerned to take the necessary precautions and to plan and stock their essential water needs during this period. It thanks them for their understanding and cooperation.
