Written by: Adel Khelifi on October 6, 2026

The National Water Exploitation and Distribution Company (SONEDE) announced disruptions and outages in the distribution of drinking water for 36 hours, starting tomorrow, Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at 1:00 a.m., in several areas of the Greater Tunis area.

The affected sectors include notably Bousalsla, Borj El Houki, Judges’ City, Sidi Daoud and Bhar Lazreg, in the La Marsa delegation; Le Kram West, Jardins de Carthage, Ain Zaghouan North and South, in the Kram delegation; as well as Mohamed Ali City and Carthage Byrsa, in the Carthage delegation.

The disruptions will also affect Les Berges du Lac 1, in the El Khadhra delegation, Les Berges du Lac 2, Taïeb Mhiri City, El Wahat City, Essalama City and El Aouina, in the La Goulette delegation, as well as Dar Fadhal, in the La Soukra delegation.

The restoration of potable water supply will take place progressively starting from 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 7, 2026.

According to SONEDE, this intervention is part of the completion of the La Marsa flood protection project and the covering of the bed of the Ettabaq wadi, at Ibn Rachiq Street in Bhar Lazreg. The project is overseen by the Urban Hydraulics Directorate under the Ministry of Equipment and Housing.

A main distribution pipeline with a diameter of 1 000 mm has been identified along the project route, hindering its continuation within the planned timelines. Its relocation has therefore become necessary.

SONEDE apologized to subscribers in the affected zones for the inconveniences caused by this temporary interruption. It specified that the works would continue 24 hours a day, with the deployment of its technical teams on the ground, in order to complete them as soon as possible and restore supply at its normal pace.

The company calls on citizens and the establishments concerned to take the necessary precautions and to build up sufficient water reserves during this period.

Note that potable water tanks will be provided to the affected people during this period to meet their essential needs until the gradual restoration of supply and its return to normal levels.
