The Tunisian Wassim Essid won, on Sunday evening, the bronze medal in men’s singles at the African Senior Table Tennis Championships, held in Tangier, Morocco, running until October 25.

The Tunisian table tennis player fell in the semifinal to the Egyptian Omar Assar by four sets to three, thus finishing the tournament in third place.

The day before, on Saturday, the Tunisian duo consisting of Wassim Essid and Fadwa Garci also clinched bronze in mixed doubles.

The two Tunisian representatives had been defeated in the semifinal by the Egyptian pair formed by Youssef Abdelaziz and Mariam Al-Hadabi by a score of 3-0 (11-6, 11-5, 11-7).

To reach the final four, the Tunisian duo had successively eliminated the Rwandan pair composed of Blaise Shimirwa and Elvine Tomukunde, by a score of 3-0 (11-2, 11-4, 11-6), then the Algerian duo formed by Melhan Djellouli and Jad Maurice, also by a score of 3-0 (11-6, 11-2, 11-9).

With this new bronze medal in men’s singles, Tunisia’s participation in these championships brings its tally to four medals: two bronze, won in mixed doubles and men’s singles, one silver in the women’s team event and another bronze in the men’s team event.
