Hypermarkets: Chicken at 8.450 DT, Sea Bream at 18 DT — Prices Announced and How Long They Last

Written by: Adel Khelifi on October 26, 2026

Since Saturday, October 24, 2026, Tunisian supermarkets are taking part in a price-cutting operation on poultry, certain farmed fish and fruits. Whole chicken advertised at 8.450 DT per kilogram, chicken breast at 16 DT and sea bream at 18 DT: these prices serve as benchmarks, but are not a price survey carried out by Tunisie Numérique in stores.

Key takeaways before shopping

Discounts on white meats are announced for a week starting from October 24. The offers on fish and fruits pertain mainly to the weekend; operations on fish are expected to recur on subsequent weekends for a month. Stocks and participating stores must be checked locally.

Chicken, cutlet, sea bass: announced prices

The director of the Observatory for Supply and Prices at the Ministry of Trade, Ramzi Trabelsi, detailed the prices announced under an agreement with representatives of the major retail sector. Here are the main announced prices.

Product Price announced Period
Whole chicken 8.450 DT/kg One week
Chicken breast 16 DT/kg One week
Chicken thighs 11.500 DT/kg One week
Turkey cutlets 18 DT/kg One week
Chicken cutlets/filet 19 DT/kg One week
Farmed sea bream 18 DT/kg Weekend
Farmed sea bass 25 DT/kg Weekend
Imported apples and pears 6 DT/kg Fruit offers
Local apples 4.500 to 5.500 DT/kg Depends on variety

These prices come from public announcements dated October 22 to 24. They do not guarantee product availability in a given store nor uniform pricing across all regions. Stores must specify the products, stocks, and dates of applicability.

How much can households theoretically save?

The chicken breast, announced at 16 DT/kg, was discussed as being between 18 and 22 DT/kg before the operation. The theoretical saving is 2 to 6 dinars per kilogram, i.e., 11.1% to 27.3% relative to the two referenced prices. This is not a uniform discount.

For the farmed sea bream, the announced drop from 23 to 18 DT/kg represents a 5 dinar gap, i.e., 21.7%. The sea bass, from 28 to 25 DT/kg, shows a difference of 3 dinars, i.e., 10.7%. For imported apples and pears, the announced gap from 7 to 6 DT/kg amounts to one dinar.

An indicative basket totaling 42.450 DT

One kilogram of whole chicken at 8.450 DT, one kilogram of chicken breast at 16 DT, and one kilogram of sea bream at 18 DT bring the total to 42.450 DT. This is merely a sum of announced prices, not a receipt recorded by TN.

Why do the discount periods differ?

Representatives of the major retailers, including Hédi Baccour, distinguished weekend offers from the seven-day promotions announced for white meats. Availability depends on supply, negotiated volumes, and the nature of fresh products.

Discussions were also mentioned about possible discounts on vegetable oils, cheeses, other food products, cleaning and hygiene. No price or definitive calendar should be attributed to them in the absence of a precise announcement.

Three checks before buying

Systematically compare prices per kilogram, verify that the variety or cut is identical, and check the final price at checkout: these precautions help gauge the reality of a promotion. A promotional price does not guarantee that the product will remain available throughout the day.

To assess the outcome of the operation, surveys across several points of sale will be necessary. Official statements serve as a reference, but do not replace on-site verification.
