A record seizure of a psychotropic substance was recorded in Algeria! The police seized more than 30 kg of cocaine and more than ten million pregabalin capsules, a psychotropic substance.

Twenty-five suspects linked to an “international network” have been arrested and presented before the public prosecutor this Thursday, August 20.

The Algerian police assured that this is the largest operation in its history in a single intervention; in a statement, it explained that it had dismantled an international network operating in the country’s west.

In total, about fifty people were involved. Twenty-five suspects have been arrested; the others are still at large.

An investigation has been ongoing since January 2026. According to the police statement, Moroccan drug traffickers “were directing this illicit activity from Morocco, relying on network members in Dubai” for the management and transfer of funds. Accomplices in France are also mentioned.

Ten million pregabalin capsules. After tracking shipments from the south of the country, the police carried out seizures and arrests in Oran, Algiers, Blida, and Tipaza.

Among the seizures were more than 100,000 euros, derived from the traffickers’ earnings, 33 kg of cocaine, about twenty vehicles, and especially ten million pregabalin capsules, a medicine intended to treat epilepsy but diverted for its euphoric and disinhibiting effects. Last year Algeria seized more than 43 million of these tablets.
