Ibrahim Bouderbala, president of the Assembly of the Representatives of the People (ARP), received this morning, Thursday, February 19, 2026, at the Bardo Palace, Ms. Jamila Ramdhani, president of the Rahma Association for the Protection of Animals in Sousse.

During the meeting, the association’s members stressed the need to abandon the practice of slaughtering animals, which they deem contrary to the principles of animal protection, and whose psychological repercussions would be negative, particularly for lovers of pets.

They also insisted on the importance of mobilizing all concerned parties — civil society and municipalities — to find alternative solutions, such as intensifying vaccination campaigns through various mechanisms and means, as well as considering the provision of shelter centers capable of protecting these animals.

They also highlighted the importance of adoption and protection, mentioning in the same context the initiatives, awareness campaigns and efforts, both individual and collective, that they undertake to combat neglect and abuse.

The association’s representatives also insisted on the necessity of applying the law in this field, calling for the continued development of related legal texts. In this regard, they asked to accelerate the examination of the bill submitted to the Assembly concerning animal protection.

For his part, the president of the ARP praised the ‘noble’ work carried out by the association, saying that it reflects human values and principles as well as a behavior based on compassion and respect for animals. He emphasized that these efforts contribute to building a balanced and healthy society, anchored in high values, reaffirming the Assembly’s support for the cause of animal welfare. He finally stressed that this principle is rooted in civilizational and cultural heritage, calling for its strengthening, notably through associative action and volunteering, as well as through the municipal support for various initiatives.
