Austria Explores New Hydrocarbon Opportunities in Algeria

The Algerian Ministry of Hydrocarbons announced that State Minister and Minister of Hydrocarbons Mohamed Arkab received, on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, the Federal Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism of the Republic of Austria, who was visiting Algeria.

The encounter aimed to examine the means to reinforce bilateral cooperation and broaden partnership prospects between the two countries, notably in the hydrocarbons sector.

The Algerian ministry indicated that the two parties examined the possibilities of strengthening cooperation in the hydrocarbons field, considered one of the main axes of economic relations between the two countries, notably in research and exploration, reservoir development, oilfield and gas services, maintenance and engineering, as well as technology transfer and know-how. They also mentioned the need to encourage Algerian and Austrian companies to establish partnerships and to launch joint high-value-added projects and investments.

According to the same source, the discussions also focused on ways to develop cooperation in the natural gas sector, particularly in production, transport and storage. The talks also addressed the areas of marketing, distribution and storage of petroleum and gas products, as well as the possibility of expanding commercial exchanges in crude oil, natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and refined products.

The Algerian Minister of Hydrocarbons reaffirmed the sector’s readiness to continue supporting Austrian companies and firms seeking to develop their activities and investments in Algeria, as well as to create favorable conditions for the realization of mutually beneficial partnerships, notably in the fields of technologies, engineering, services and industrial solutions, training and knowledge transfer.

Meanwhile, the Austrian minister praised Algeria’s position as an important and reliable energy partner, expressing Austrian companies’ interest in strengthening their presence in the Algerian market and exploring new opportunities for cooperation and investment, especially in the hydrocarbons sector and the technologies related to it.
