Written by: Adel Khelifi on November 1, 2026

The Tunisian state has allocated, within the framework of the 2027 budget project, a package of 6.8 million dinars intended to continue maintenance and development work on real estate properties owned by Tunisia abroad and housing its diplomatic and consular representations.

This envelope is part of efforts to optimize the use of public resources, preserve the state’s real estate heritage, and improve working and reception conditions within these representations.

The credits allocated to these operations are distributed as follows: 1 million dinars for the development of the residence in New York, 1 million dinars for the conduct of a study related to the layout of the residences and the embassy premises in Washington, as well as 2.8 million dinars for the renovation and development of the Tunisian Embassy in Brussels.

Moreover, 1 million dinars will be devoted to the development and expansion of the ambassador’s residence in Bern, while a similar envelope will be allocated to the development and expansion of the Consul General’s residence in Jeddah.

This initiative is part of a global investment program endowed with approximately 17.8 million dinars in payment appropriations for the benefit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad for the year 2027.

This program aims to strengthen Tunisia’s presence and influence on the international stage, while improving the quality of services provided to the Tunisian community living abroad.

The planned credits are distributed between 400 000 dinars for developmental interventions for the benefit of the International Diplomatic Academy, in order to modernize its operating means, and 17.4 million dinars dedicated to investments in infrastructure and modernization of working tools, both abroad and at the central administration level.

In the same context, an envelope of 3.4 million dinars has been planned to reinforce the Tunisian state’s real estate abroad. This amount includes notably two million dinars allocated for the launch of the construction of the embassy and the diplomatic residence in Addis Ababa, under a turnkey arrangement, as well as one million dinars for the construction of the consular service in Berlin.

Studies will also be carried out with a view to constructing new diplomatic premises in Abuja and Jeddah.

Furthermore, the budget project provides 1.7 million dinars for renewing the fleet of vehicles of the diplomatic representations, and 1.3 million dinars for securing the premises and equipping them with the necessary equipment.

As for the central administration, the report provides an allocation of 4.3 million dinars for the development of infrastructure and modernization of working tools.

Of this amount, 800 000 dinars will be devoted to continuing the modernization of computer systems and software, through several projects aimed at improving the performance of the electronic mailbox, modernizing the ministry’s internal network and implementing an electronic mail correspondence system.

These efforts notably concern the project of the electronic consular platform “E-Consulate”, which aims to strengthen the efficiency of administrative services and accelerate the transition to a digital diplomacy.
