The economic control teams from the Ministry of Trade and Export Development conducted about 50,758 inspections in September 2026, which led to 7,953 violations, according to a ministry press release.

These violations primarily concern transaction transparency (3,715), prices and monopolies (2,688), quality, metrology, and other areas (1,526), as well as the manipulation of subsidized products (24).

The interventions affected several sectors, including fresh agricultural and marine products, general food, bakeries, restaurants, cafes and various industrial products.

Significant seizures

During the same month, the control teams seized notably 53 tons of subsidized cereal derivatives, 209 tons of fruits and vegetables, 4,939 kg of poultry meat, 21,450 eggs, 3.5 tons of sugar, 200,000 liters of bottled water, 73 tons of animal feed, 83,091 subsidized notebooks and 28,327 packs of tobacco.

Mineral water and school supplies under surveillance

As part of the targeted monitoring of sectors that have recently faced supply and price tensions, the ministry notes that since the beginning of August 2026, nearly 1,135 infractions have been recorded in the mineral water sector, including 573 related to prices and monopolies.

In the school supplies sector, 817 infractions have been recorded, including 214 concerning price overcharges and monopolies.

1 609 complaints received on the toll-free number

Parallel to on-site inspections, the ministry recalls that the toll-free number 80 100 191 remains one of the mechanisms for listening to citizens and reporting overcharges. Between January 1 and September 30, 2026, 1,609 complaints were registered there, mainly concerning prices and supply. They were referred to the relevant bodies for the initiation of the required legal procedures.

Mineral water leads the list of targeted products, with 816 complaints. Price increases or sales at non-regulated prices account for 983 complaints, or 61% of the total, while 308 complaints concern refusal to sell, concealment of goods and monopolies. Others relate to conditional selling, product quality or the failure to display prices.

By region, the Tunis regional directorate of commerce registered 368 complaints, ahead of Ben Arous (160) and Ariana (144).
