Saturday, the Egyptian judiciary sentenced a television presenter and eleven other people to death for the manufacture and trafficking of narcotics.
This is Sarah Khalifa, who was arrested in April 2025. A famous television presenter and highly popular influencer on social networks, where she was followed by more than 2.5 million people just on Instagram.
At 39, also a businesswoman, she is known for her show “Mission Difficult” on the private channel al-Mehwar, dedicated to security and crime affairs.
According to the newspaper al-Ahram, the Cairo Penal Court “condemned producer Sarah Khalifa and 11 other defendants to death by hanging, for having formed a criminal organization specialized in the importation of substances used in the manufacture of drugs, with a view to selling them.”

They were also convicted for “illegal possession and handling of firearms and ammunition,” according to this source and several other state media outlets, including Akhbar al-Youm. The authorities seized more than 750 kg of drugs and precursor materials used in their manufacture, as well as tools and machinery in two apartments that served as laboratories, according to al-Ahram.
Sarah Khalifa is accused of being the boss of a gang of about thirty people who imported the components necessary to manufacture synthetic drugs and flood the market. The abundance of drugs “Made in Egypt” had even driven down the price of narcotics.
Under Egyptian law the penalty for drug trafficking is death. However, those convicted can appeal. If the appeal is accepted, the trial restarts from zero.
