Espérance Sportive de Tunis announced, in a statement, that its youth handball team had returned healthy and safe to Tunis, following the incidents that marred its match played in Sayada for the opening day of the youth championship.

The club sought to reassure its supporters as well as the families of the players about the safety of the team, saying that what it described as “excesses” that occurred during the match do not correspond to the values or principles of sport, whether carried out by players or by officials.

Espérance also indicated that it had opened an investigation to shed light on the circumstances of the incident and to identify the various parties involved, noting that the necessary measures would be taken in light of the conclusions of this investigation.

The club further stated that it would take all measures it deems necessary to protect the rights of its players and defend them, while ensuring the rights and image of the club are preserved.

However, the communiqué does not provide further details about the exact nature of the incidents nor about the parties involved, pending the completion of the investigation announced by the club.
