The Ministry of the Interior called, this Thursday, on citizens and road users to exercise vigilance, following alerts issued by the National Institute of Meteorology regarding potentially heavy rains in several governorates.
The affected regions are Tunis, Ariana, La Manouba, Ben Arous, Nabeul, Sousse, Monastir and Mahdia.
Avoid wadis and flooded roads
The ministry recommends avoiding crossing wadis and watercourses, regardless of their level or flow.
It also calls not to engage on roads or points where water accumulates, and to stay away from low-lying areas and the beds of wadis during rainy episodes.
The motorists are also invited not to park their vehicles in runoff areas or on passages likely to be inundated by water.
Enhanced caution while driving
The Ministry of the Interior recommends reducing speed, keeping safe distances and exercising caution while driving.
It also emphasizes adherence to traffic rules, in particular the use of headlights, fog lights, and hazard lights when the conditions require it.
Drivers are furthermore urged to yield to pedestrians and to follow the instructions given by the officers present on the ground.
Giving way to emergency services
The ministry also asks road users not to impede the movement of emergency vehicles and ambulances, so as to allow rapid intervention when needed.
It also recommends following the statements and alerts published by competent authorities as the weather situation evolves.
