Mr. Tayeb Dridi, governor of Jendouba, chaired a working session at the governorate headquarters devoted to examining ways to combat the phenomenon of anarchic slaughter of sheep, particularly of ewes, due to its repercussions on consumer health and the depletion of the livestock.
The meeting brought together numerous local officials, including secretaries-general, delegates, municipal representatives, as well as senior officers from the National Security and the National Guard, directors of agricultural and health services, in addition to representatives of the Regional Union of Agriculture and Fisheries.
The discussions focused on the legal and organizational mechanisms to combat this phenomenon, drawing on Law No. 95 of 2005 as well as on the ministerial decree of the Minister of Agriculture dated August 23, 1984, relating to the slaughter of sheep and cattle.
The governor called for intensifying joint control operations, applying the law to violators, strengthening farmers’ awareness, hardening controls at slaughterhouses, and establishing common control commissions bringing together all the relevant administrations, in order to guarantee the safety of animal products.
