The General Administration of Libyan Customs announced that agents from the anti-smuggling and narcotics service in Zuwara, stationed at the Ras Jedir land crossing, had seized large sums in foreign currencies, carefully concealed inside a vehicle registered in Libya, coming from Tunisia and carrying two Libyan nationals.

The seizure occurred after the driver’s behavior raised the suspicions of the officers during the usual control procedures. He exhibited signs of nervousness and hesitation, which led the customs officers to subject the vehicle to an in-depth search within the premises of the customs post.

Following a comprehensive technical inspection, the agents discovered, in the body of the vehicle, secret compartments specially arranged for smuggling. Twenty bundles containing foreign currencies were hidden there.

After counting, the total amount seized amounted to:

500,000 United States dollars; 234,620 euros.

The same source announced that the necessary judicial procedures had been initiated. The seized sums as well as the two suspects were handed over to the competent authorities in order to continue the investigation, in accordance with the applicable law.
