Loans on the Honor System: Bad News for Customers of These 4 Banks

A chartered accountant specializing in banking affairs, Sofiane Lourimi, has stated that 19 banks out of 23 are integrating the credit-on-honor scheme; the remaining four will not be able to offer these financings to their clients, due to a lack of profits last year.

Let us recall that the submission of applications began this Thursday, October 1, via the digital platforms made available by the banking institutions. The specialist recalled on Mosaïque FM that the state of banks’ finances can be easily verified by looking at the reports published on the official site of the Financial Market Council (CMF).

The profits earned by the banks in 2025 range from 1.35 million to 385 million dinars, so for some the very comfortable margins allow many clients to be supported. Decree No. 148 of 2026 of July 23, 2026, establishing the reform of banking facilities and the cheque regime, states that 8% of these profits will be devoted to small, interest-free aids.

As a reminder, the financing cap is set at 5,000 dinars for individuals, 10,000 dinars for projects whose investment does not exceed 150,000 dinars, and 25,000 dinars for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as well as community companies.
