The commission for major projects, gathered this Thursday, October 8, 2026 at the Government Palace in La Kasbah under the presidency of the head of government, Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri, has decided the awarding of several public contracts, including that for the reconstruction of the El Menzah Olympic Stadium, entrusted to a Chinese company.
According to a communiqué from the information services of the Presidency of the Government, the commission also awarded the contract for the works to protect the Sidi Bou Said hill against landslides. These decisions were made following the examination of the dossiers submitted to the commission.
Six major projects reviewed
The meeting focused on the progress of six major public projects spanning energy, health, infrastructure, transport and sport.
These include the reconstruction of the El Menzah Olympic Stadium, the extension of the Borj El Amri power plant, the protection of the Sidi Bou Said hill against landslides, the rehabilitation of Bir Ali Ben Khalifa Regional Hospital (Sfax), the expansion of Tunis-Carthage International Airport, as well as the deep-water port project and logistics zone at Enfidha.
Accelerating the pace of execution
At the opening of the proceedings, the head of government affirmed that the State continues to carry out numerous public projects in various domains. She stressed that speeding up the pace of execution is an absolute priority, in line with the directions of the President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, in order to support economic and social development, stimulate investment, create wealth and jobs, and reduce regional disparities.
Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri urged the relevant public structures to anticipate and overcome difficulties and to advance the works so as to guarantee the completion of the projects within the set deadlines.
At the conclusion of the meeting, she stressed the importance of ongoing on-the-ground monitoring of the projects in the different regions. She invited officials of the ministries, public structures, and governors to intensify their efforts so that these projects are completed on time and to the highest standards of quality.
