The situation of mineral water supply has returned to a normal pace in most distribution channels in the Ariana Governorate, according to the Regional Directorate of Trade and Export Development.
Since August 18, 2026, approximately 4 million bottles of mineral water in various formats have been injected into supermarkets and with wholesalers, alongside strengthened economic control operations.
A return to normal supply
The Regional Director of Trade and Export Development in Ariana, Sami Béjaoui, stated on Friday, September 18, 2026 that the mineral water supply had returned to its usual rhythm in the majority of distribution channels.
He noted that the relevant services had supervised the distribution of the available quantities in coordination with the different security structures as well as with regional and local authorities.
Overpricing observed at some merchants
Despite this improvement in supply, the control services noted several overpricing instances among certain mineral water distributors, food retailers, and dried fruit shops.
The irregularities identified mainly concern the absence of price displays, non-conforming price increases, refusal to sell, and certain irregular commercial practices.
288 economic violations recorded
In response to these practices, economic control teams intensified their interventions in the various commercial spaces and areas of Ariana Governorate.
These operations led to the recording of 288 economic violations, primarily related to price hikes, refusals to sell, and commercial practices not in compliance with the applicable rules.
More than 78,000 litres seized and reinjected
The control services also carried out the effective seizure of 78,621 litres of mineral water.
The majority of these quantities were seized in the Mnihla, Ennasr, and El Menzah areas, before being reinjected into the legal distribution circuits.
42 complaints processed
Alongside field operations, the competent services processed 42 complaints related to supply or commercial practices concerning mineral water.
These reports were received via the economic control’s toll-free number, 80 100 191, as well as directly by the services of the Regional Directorate of Trade.
Two businesses proposed for closure
As part of strengthening administrative sanctions, the Regional Directorate of Trade proposed the closure of two businesses.
According to Sami Béjaoui, this measure was proposed due to price increases deemed excessive for mineral water.
