In the first quarter of 2026, mobile payment in Tunisia shows a clear growth trajectory, driven by both the increase in the number of transactions, the widening network of players, and the progression of mobile wallets.
The number of transactions reached 2.7 million, up 67.1%. This growth is markedly higher than that of the number of wallets, which stands at 477,000, up 22.2%. This shows that the use of mobile payments is intensifying: users are not only more numerous, they also perform more operations.
Payment operations represent the largest share of total volume, at 65.6% of transactions. They far exceed transfers, which account for 18.8%, followed by cash-in operations at 10.7% and cash-out at only 4.8%.
This distribution shows that mobile payment is beginning to assert itself as a daily settlement tool, and not only as a means of transferring or withdrawing money.
In value, transactions reached 487.6 million dinars, up 34.5%. Payments represent 57.5% of the amounts exchanged, followed by transfers at 16%, cash-in at 13.5% and cash-out at 13%.
As a reminder, the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) had announced in early May that it is working to promote and generalize the use of digital payments, notably through the deployment of mobile payments, as part of its strategy for developing digital payments.
This is why a unique national label, “TUNPAY”, was established in consultation with the Tunisia Monétique Company (SMT) in its capacity as manager of the mobile payment system in Tunisia, in order to unify its visual identity, facilitate the identification of its acceptance points and strengthen the trust of its users
