A judicial investigation has been opened, with authorization from the public prosecutor, following the dissemination of a video deemed ‘particularly violent’ showing acts of mistreatment that led to the killing of a small dog, according to attorney Ilyes Jilani on Friday.
In a statement given to Jawhara FM, the lawyer specified that investigations revealed the involvement of seven people in this case. Four of them have already been questioned by authorities and their appearance has been scheduled for 18 February.
According to the same source, one of the suspects has a criminal record and is currently incarcerated in connection with another case. Moreover, two individuals have fled and are now the subject of a wanted notice issued by the prosecutor’s office.
Ilyes Jilani also explained that the video dates back to 2024, which means that the legal deadline for prosecution has not expired. The defendants should be referred for trial under an accelerated procedure and will receive summons to appear before the competent criminal chamber. He reminded that only the judiciary is authorized to determine their guilt and to pronounce the appropriate penalties according to the charges brought.
In the same vein, the lawyer noted that the person who filmed the scene without intervening to save the animal could be considered an accomplice. He warned that ‘any person capable of such violence against an animal can pose a danger to society,’ citing behavior that reveals a tendency toward criminality.
