The criminal chamber of the Court of First Instance of Tunis sentenced, the day before yesterday, the owner of a transport truck to 15 years in prison, accompanied by a fine of 50,000 dinars, after finding him guilty of drug trafficking-related offenses.
The case dates back to the arrival of the defendant at the Port of La Goulette, coming from a European country. He was subjected to the usual customs and security checks.
During the passage of his truck through the scanner, the agents detected a suspicious presence. The thorough search of the vehicle revealed a quantity of narcotics carefully concealed in compartments arranged inside the truck doors.
The file was subsequently forwarded to the judiciary. After the completion of investigations and the hearings of the various parties, the elements of the file led to uphold the charges against the truck owner.
The criminal chamber thus imposed a sentence of 15 years in prison, in addition to the financial penalties provided in the context of this case.
