The president of the National Chamber of Poultry Merchants, Ibrahim Nefzaoui, stated this Monday, February 9, 2026, in a statement to Tunisie Numérique, that various poultry products will be available in sufficient quantities as Ramadan approaches, a period traditionally marked by increased consumption.
According to him, national production of poultry meats currently reaches nearly 13,700 tonnes, a level deemed satisfactory despite crises and difficulties recently faced by the sector. As for the stocks dedicated for the month of Ramadan, they include about 1,200 tonnes of ready-to-cook chicken.
Nefzaoui also specified that the production of turkey is around 6,600 tonnes, while the stock of eggs is estimated at nearly 22 million units. The overall national production reaches about 164 million eggs, intended for daily consumption.
A downward trend in prices
The official stated that no shortage is anticipated, noting that all chicken-based products and their derivatives are available on the market. Prices should thus register a slight decline, with the price of four eggs ranging between 1,200 and 1,300 dinars.
Regarding white meats, prices should hover around 8,500 dinars per kilogram for retail and 7,500 dinars per kilogram for wholesale.
The escalopes still under pressure
On the other hand, the price of the escalope should reach about 17 dinars per kilogram, a relatively high level due to a supply deficit and rising production costs. This situation is notably explained by the damages suffered by breeders and poultry producers following the recent rains.
Nefzaoui finally indicated that several measures have been taken, with the involvement of different stakeholders, to ensure market supply during the holy month. While a price rise could be observed during the first days of Ramadan due to strong demand, it should gradually stabilize thereafter.
These indicators are meant to reassure consumers, as sector professionals work to ensure a steady supply and relatively controlled prices during this key period of the year.
