STEG Authorizes Installation of Photovoltaic Storage Batteries Connected to Hybrid Inverters

The Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG) announced that, faced with exceptionally high temperatures and the strong pressure on the national electrical grid, and within the framework of encouragement for investment in renewable energies, residential customers are officially authorized to install photovoltaic energy storage batteries connected to hybrid inverters.

This strategic decision allows citizens equipped with solar panels to continue using the electricity stored in their batteries to power their homes, including during temporary outages caused by load-balancing operations on the national grid.

To guarantee the safety of installations and the grid, STEG indicated that it had published on its website a comprehensive technical guide defining the conditions and minimum requirements to be respected during the design, installation and maintenance of these systems. This guide is addressed to the general public, the company’s technical services, and accredited installers.

The company added that compliance with the technical requirements is essential to guarantee the safety of its field agents and technicians during interventions and maintenance operations on the grid, as well as to protect household equipment.

To this end, the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company has online a detailed technical guide specifying the conditions and the minimum standards to be respected during the design, implementation and maintenance of these installations. This document is intended for the public, STEG’s technical services, and accredited installers.

A long-awaited decision! 

In response to this decision, the Professional Grouping of Renewable Energies within CONECT announced that it welcomed with satisfaction the publication of the new technical framework governing the installation of hybrid photovoltaic systems, which it regards as an important step in the development of the technical and regulatory framework of the renewable energy sector in Tunisia.

“This framework should open up new prospects for the adoption of solutions combining solar energy, storage and the electrical grid. It will thus help strengthen electricity supply security, improve energy efficiency and support the self-generation system,” highlighted the Professional Grouping of Renewable Energies. 

The group affirmed its readiness to contribute to the successful implementation of this framework, while continuing its collaboration with the various stakeholders in order to support the sector’s development and accelerate the energy transition in Tunisia.
