The Ministry of Health announced, this Saturday, the success of a delicate ophthalmic surgical intervention carried out at Gabès Regional Hospital. Dr. Yassine Belghith succeeded in performing a complex eye operation on a 73-year-old patient who had lost his sight following an accident that occurred five years ago.
According to a ministry statement, the intervention consisted of fixing the capsular bag using the Ahmed capsular ring technique, used to treat cataracts resulting from trauma. This is an advanced surgical technique, generally employed in complex cases.
The ministry specified that this operation is a first of its kind at Gabès Regional Hospital, marking an important milestone in the development of high-precision ophthalmic surgery in the regions.
In this context, the ministry praised the efforts of the medical and paramedical staff of public hospitals, reaffirming its commitment to continue strengthening modern medical equipment and specialized skills, in order to bring advanced health services closer to citizens in the various regions of the country.
