The Tunisian Union of Industry, Trade and Crafts (UTICA) announced, in a statement, the suspension of the general strike that had been planned in the sectors of irregular public transport for people on Monday, 27 April 2026. This decision follows a series of consultations and steps that resulted in explicit commitments to examine the pending points, not yet implemented, within a deadline not exceeding August 31, 2026.
UTICA explained that this decision followed the intervention of its president and the National Transport Federation, in consultation with the various union structures under the Federation. It was thus agreed to address the question of fare increases, in consultation with professionals, during June 2026, noting that a commitment had already been made earlier to implement this rise by the end of last March.
According to the statement, it was also confirmed that work would continue to resolve the various points of divergence with the Ministry of Transport, notably those relating to setting a final deadline for the publication of the definitive version of Law No. 33 of 2024, after prior consultation with representatives of the profession. It also concerns establishing a clear timetable for the revision and supplementation of Decree No. 581 of 2023, dated 7 September 2023, while allowing sector representatives to submit their observations before its publication.
The commitments also include setting a final deadline for the publication of the definitive version of the regulation governing the work of transporters in stations, with the participation of representatives of the profession in its elaboration, as well as completing the revision of the minister of Transport’s order dated 22 January 2010, within a defined timeframe.
In conclusion of its statement, UTICA reaffirmed its close monitoring of these various matters, as well as its willingness to guarantee the rights of professionals and defend their interests within the framework of dialogue and consultation.
