Tunisia-Algeria: Derbali Calls for Strengthening Energy Cooperation

The Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, and the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Mourad Adjal, received this Wednesday, at the headquarters of the Algerian Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Imed Derbali, President of the National Council of Regions and Districts, on an official visit to Algeria at the head of a parliamentary delegation.

On this occasion, Imed Derbali underscored the strength of the cooperation and joint work between the two brotherly countries in the fields of energy and renewable energy. He also emphasized the importance of further strengthening coordination, consultation, and cooperation at the same pace in order to guarantee energy security in both countries, according to a press release from the National Council of Regions and Districts.

The discussions focused on the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation relations in the fields of energy, hydrocarbons, mines, and renewable energy, described as historic and deep, as well as on the means to consolidate and develop them, notably in the sectors of hydrocarbon production and marketing, electricity production and transmission, as well as renewable energies.

The two parties also examined the progress of joint projects between the two countries, in particular the project to strengthen the electrical interconnection between Algeria and Tunisia, as well as opportunities for cooperation in the mining sector, in the phosphate domain and in strengthening the exchange of expertise and training.

The Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, as well as the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, presented the main outlines of the development programs of their respective sectors. They expressed their willingness to reinforce and elevate the level of cooperation between the institutions of the two countries in these areas, in line with the will of the two Heads of State, Kais Saied and Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and in the continuation of a strong political will aimed at establishing an effective and sustainable economic partnership.

The meeting took place in the presence of the vice-president of the National Council of Regions and Districts, Youssef Barkaoui, members of the accompanying parliamentary delegation, the Secretary of State to the Algerian Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, in charge of Mines, Karima Bekir Tafer, as well as the vice-president of the Council of the Nation, Rabah Beghali, and several senior officials from the two ministries.
