Tunisia: Digitalization Accelerates as Fiber Optics and Internet Expand (Video)

The Minister of Communications Technologies, Sofiene Hemissi, conducted, on Thursday, April 16, 2026, a working visit to the Béja Governorate, within the framework of monitoring the infrastructures and services under his department, as well as assessing the progress of digital projects in the region.

In a statement to Tunisian Digital, the minister indicated that this visit is part of a program of oversight and monitoring aimed at evaluating the implementation of projects and improving the quality of services offered to citizens.

Uneven progress in the projects

Sofiene Hemissi specified that several achievements have already been realized on the ground, while acknowledging that many other projects remain pending.

He stressed, in this regard, the need to accelerate the execution pace and to remove obstacles hindering the progress of certain works, in order to strengthen the digital infrastructures in the region.

The fiber optic is progressing at a sustained pace

Regarding the deployment of fiber optic, the minister affirmed that the works are advancing at a rapid pace, within the framework of the national strategy to modernize the telecommunications network and to improve the quality of internet connectivity.

He added that this program constitutes a key pillar of the digital transformation process in Tunisia, especially in the inland regions.

A daily improvement in the quality of the internet

In conclusion, the minister assured that the quality of the internet in Tunisia is experiencing continuous improvement, notably in terms of speed and performance.

He also indicated that the fiber optic generalized program is progressing “at maximum speed,” with the aim of strengthening the digital infrastructure and meeting the growing needs of citizens and businesses.
