The president of the Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE), Farouk Bouasker, announced that the council of the Authority had taken a decision he described as historic, consisting in abolishing the use of electoral ink during the upcoming electoral cycles in Tunisia.

In a statement, Bouasker explained that this decision comes after an accumulation of electoral experiences that has allowed the Authority to ensure the reliability and credibility of the voters’ register, thereby rendering the use of electoral ink unnecessary to guarantee the integrity of the electoral process.

He added that this direction aligns with practices adopted by several democracies that rely on direct voting systems without the use of electoral ink.

The president of the Authority specified that electoral ink will no longer be used starting with the upcoming elections scheduled in the El Kabaria electoral district on June 28.
