The number of marriages registered in Tunisia has slightly declined in 2025 compared to 2024. A total of 69,617 marriages were registered in 2024. For 2025, the monthly data published by INS show 68,631 marriages registered. The decrease is therefore relatively limited. The annual number of marriages remains close to what was recorded in 2024.
The 2025 data mainly highlight a strong seasonality. The data thus show a very clear concentration of celebrations during the summer period.
August comes well ahead with 15,808 marriages, ahead of July with 11,292. Alone, July and August accounted for 27,100 marriages, representing nearly 39.5% of all marriages registered in 2025 — TN calculation.
If we add September, with 6,928 marriages, the third quarter reaches 34,028 marriages, i.e., almost half of the annual total (49.6%).
The annual minimum thus appears in March, with 1,080 marriages.
Births in Tunisia: a decline of about 5.3% in 2025 compared to 2024
Civil status data published by the National Institute of Statistics (INS) show a decline in the number of births registered in Tunisia in 2025. The number of births reaches 118,173, compared to an annual total of 124,850 births in 2024. This is therefore a decrease of 6,677 births in one year, or -5.35%.
On average, Tunisia thus registered about 9,848 births per month in 2025, compared with 10,404 per month in 2024, i.e., about 556 fewer births per month.
The evolution over 2025 is not linear. After 10,179 births in January, the number falls to 8,229 in February, its lowest level of the year. July constitutes the peak of 2025. The level remains high during the summer and early autumn.
The last two months show a marked decline compared to the summer levels: 8,948 births in November and 8,947 in December.
INS data thus establish a decrease in the number of births registered between 2024 and 2025. They also show significant seasonality during 2025, with a trough in February, a rise up to July, then a retreat in the fourth quarter.
