The Tunisian ambassador to Beijing, Adel Larbi, met on Tuesday at the headquarters of the diplomatic mission with Ivan Cao, regional director for the Middle East and Africa for the Chinese electric and hybrid vehicle manufacturer BYD, as part of efforts to promote economic diplomacy and encourage further Chinese investments in Tunisia.
The meeting provided an opportunity to examine the comparative advantages offered by Tunisia to foreign investors and to encourage the Chinese group to strengthen its investments in the country and to expand its activities there.
Tunisia’s proximity to African, Arab and European markets was in particular highlighted as a strength capable of making it an attractive platform for investment and a starting point for automotive production and the development of electrical infrastructure, destined for both the local market and regional markets.
According to a press release published on the information and communication platform of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, the BYD regional director expressed his interest in exploring investment opportunities and the creation of businesses in Tunisia.
He also conveyed the willingness to develop cooperation in the area of establishing electrical infrastructure as well as technology transfer in the sectors of electrical energy and alternative energies.
The discussions also covered Tunisia’s experience in the automotive components industry and the availability of a skilled workforce in this sector.
