Tunisia’s tourism shows a mixed performance in 2026. According to the National Office of Tunisian Tourism (ONTT), the number of visitors recorded since the start of the year has surpassed 8 million, despite a slight year-on-year decline compared with the same period in 2025. At the same time, tourist revenues continue to rise, reaching 6.89 billion dinars as of October 20, 2026, according to data from the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT).

The Essentials

  • More than 8 million visitors recorded since the start of 2026, despite a slight year-on-year decrease.
  • Algeria and Libya: neighboring markets are mainly affected by the drop in arrivals.
  • European markets: an estimated growth of 2.3%, notably on the French and British markets.
  • 6.89 billion dinars: tourist revenues accumulated as of October 20, 2026.
  • +243.3 million dinars: the increase in tourist revenues compared with the same period in 2025.

A decline mainly observed in the Algerian and Libyan markets

The ONTT’s Director General indicated that the slight drop in tourist arrivals concerns mainly visitors from neighboring countries, notably Algeria and Libya.

He attributed this trend to several factors, citing some difficulties related to the use of bank cards as well as the effects of climate change.

These explanations were put forward by the ONTT official, without a quantified assessment of each factor’s contribution to the decline in arrivals being communicated.

The French and British markets show a growth

Conversely, traditional European markets are showing a positive evolution.

According to ONTT indications, these markets, notably France and the United Kingdom, recorded a growth of 2.3%.

This evolution highlights different dynamics depending on the visitors’ geographic origin: while arrivals from neighboring countries are decreasing, traditional European markets are showing growth.

Tourist revenues reach 6.89 billion dinars

Despite the slight decrease in arrivals, Tunisian tourist revenues continue to rise.

According to the Central Bank of Tunisia’s indicators, as of October 20, 2026, tourism revenues accumulated since the start of the year reached 6.89 billion dinars.

This amount represents an increase of 243.3 million dinars compared with the same period in 2025, i.e. an approximate growth of 3.7% (TN calculation).
