The National Company for Water Exploitation and Distribution (SONEDE) announced the launch of maintenance works deemed necessary at the Zarat seawater desalination plant, in the Gabès Governorate, for the period from 13 to 23 April 2026. These interventions will cause disruptions in the supply of drinking water in the governorates of Gabès, Médenine, and Tataouine.
In a press release published this Saturday, the company noted that these works target maintenance of the plant’s second production line, which represents 50% of its output, after the successful completion of maintenance on the first line and its return to full capacity.
This station is the main source of water supply for the southeastern regions.
The disruptions will affect more precisely the delegations of Gabès-Sud and Mareth in Gabès Governorate, those of Tataouine-Nord, Tataouine-Sud and Ghomrassen in Tataouine Governorate, as well as the delegations of Médenine-Nord, Médenine-Sud, Zarzis and Sidi Makhlouf in Médenine Governorate.
In this context, the company has urged its subscribers in the affected areas to rationalize their water consumption throughout the entire period of the works, according to the press release.
