The environment and climate specialist, Adel Hentati, stated, this Friday, May 15, 2026, in a statement to Tunisie Numérique, that the weather situation expected for the end of this week and the beginning of next week will be marked by the interaction of several atmospheric systems.

According to him, the effects of the tropical anticyclone should gradually retreat toward the Sahara, giving way to the influence of a polar anticyclone coming mainly from the north of the Atlantic.

Short showers accompanied by hail

Adel Hentati explained that this configuration could cause very short-lived rains, sometimes accompanied by hail, as observed the day before yesterday in several regions of the country.

He stressed that this climatic situation remains relatively unstable and unclear, with a noticeable drop in temperatures during the night. The gap between daytime and nighttime temperatures could reach about 12 to 13 degrees.

Mediterranean waters warmer than normal

The specialist also noted that the waters of the Mediterranean are, during this month of May, warmer than usual, with an estimated difference of 4 to 5 degrees. This situation makes swimming possible in certain areas.

He summarized the weather situation by indicating that inland regions and elevations could experience rain showers with hail, while coastal areas should record mild weather during the day and cooler conditions at night.

This situation is expected to continue until the end of the week.

A more stable weather early next week

From the beginning of next week, notably Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, the weather should become more stable, according to Adel Hentati.

However, the nocturnal coolness should persist under the influence of the polar current, in interaction with the Azores anticyclone.

Risk of sand whirlwinds and fog

Adel Hentati also urged vigilance regarding the possibility of sand whirlwinds forming in the south and center of the country, sometimes with considerable intensity.

He also noted the possible presence of fog, sometimes dense in the morning, particularly in flat areas around the lake basins and reservoirs.
