During an exceptional press conference held at Trump Tower in New York, Trump, who will attend this Sunday’s first match of the tournament, spoke: “This may be the most successful sporting event in world history. It has been a tournament like no other before,” said Donald Trump, who will attend Sunday’s match for the first time in the tournament, on the occasion of the final between Spain and Argentina. The match, at which he will hand the trophy to the winning team as a reminder, was accompanied by reflections on what comes next; already, Trump hinted at a possible World Cup hosted again in the United States “but this time without Mexico and Canada.”
A little earlier, the American president had mentioned a co-organization with China: “Gianni (Infantino, the FIFA president) had a brilliant idea, we could organize the next tournament with China. The players would enjoy the short flights between matches.”
For his part, the FIFA president, a close friend of Donald Trump, also spoke frankly when addressing this World Cup 2026: “It has not only been the most beautiful World Cup of all time; it is the greatest human, social, and cultural event that humanity has ever seen, and we are a part of it,” he said, thanking a Donald Trump who stood beside him, evidently delighted to hear such words.
