Several regions within the Gabès, Tataouine, and Médenine governorates have been experiencing disruptions in the distribution of drinking water since 10:00 a.m. this Monday. This situation follows planned maintenance work at the Zarat sea water desalination plant, in the Gabès governorate.
According to a previous statement by the National Company for Water Exploitation and Distribution (SONEDE), the cuts and disruptions affect the delegations of Gabès Sud and Mareth (Gabès Governorate), Tataouine Nord, Tataouine Sud and Ghomrassen (Tataouine Governorate), as well as Médenine Nord, Médenine Sud, Zarzis and Sidi Makhlouf (Médenine Governorate).
SONEDE explains that these works are part of maintenance and upkeep operations aimed at ensuring the longevity of the facilities and improving service quality.
The gradual resumption of potable water supply is expected tomorrow, Tuesday, February 24, 2026, starting at 10:00 p.m., with a gradual return to normal across all affected areas.
